Chicago Bears offensive lineman Lance Louis has been sentenced to 40 hours of community service and anger management classes for an altercation that happened while he was playing at San Diego State. Louis was also sentenced to three years of informal probation and a $565 fine as part of his plea deal with the San Diego City Attorney's Office after pleading guilty Friday to misdemeanor assault.
Charlie Batch has signed a two-year contract to remain with the Pittsburgh Steelers as a backup quarterback. The 35-year-old Batch has been under contract with the Steelers for eight seasons, although he sat out 2004 and 2008 with injuries. He has thrown only two passes since 2007, and 135 overall during his time with Pittsburgh.
Adam "Pacman" Jones is trying hard for a 2010 comeback. At least three teams, -- the Lions, 49ers and Bengals -- have expressed "great interest" in the troubled cornerback, though no signing was imminent, agent Ray Savage said Friday. Savage said he hoped to set up in-person visits with those teams in the near future.
Former NFL linebacker Elijah Alexander has died after a nearly five-year battle with cancer. He was 39. Medical City Hospital spokeswoman Bianca Jackson said Alexander died Wednesday night at the Dallas facility. She declined to comment on cause of death. Alexander was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer of the bone marrow, in 2005, four years after his career ended in Oakland.
Linebacker Derrick Johnson has signed a restricted free agent tender and will remain with the Kansas City Chiefs. Johnson was the Chiefs' first-round pick out of Texas in 2005. But early last season, for reasons he said were never fully explained by the coaching staff, Johnson was moved to part-time duty.
